Why Boogeyman Sucks

The 2005 film Boogeyman was not scary, it just sucked. It had a bad plot, had a bad monster and had a bad ending.

The story is basically about a kid who witnesses his father being kidnapped by the Boogeyman. He grows up and is still traumatised by the incident. People don’t believe him, but a certain little girl sees what he also saw. We end up finding out that the Boogeyman isn’t confined to one place.

But we’re left thinking throughout the film “When is this monster going to show up?

Seriously, the monster doesn’t show its face until right at the end. It does add to the suspense, but even when it does show up, it’s not even scary!

This monster would have kidnapped so many humans in its lifetime without a fight, yet how hard is it to catch one guy? The Boogeyman is as useless as Voldemort as he spends seven dreary books trying to kill a boy!

Even more, the ending is just an insult to the horror genre. How can someone just ‘kick’ the Boogeyman? How can someone kick it so hard that it goes flying back into the closet where it came from and stops coming back?

The Boogeyman was supposed to scare. It wasn’t supposed to suck.
